Anyone else seen those "Shower Thoughts" memes? Like... those thoughts that we think in the weirdest of times, but really make us stand there baffled for a while? They crack me up because I have these kinds of thoughts all throughout the day, shower or not. It's just how my brain works.
"....Technically, we're all half-centaur"
"...What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?"
"...A butt-load of underwear is exactly one pair"
I could go on and on. Anyone else get caught up in the weird thoughts that don't actually matter that much? I think we're all a little guilty. I think too much about deadlines, bills, future plans, and a messy house far too often, like anyone. But the bigger problem is, that in the middle of each small issue that's on my mind, there is a whole bucket of even more random thoughts of "what if's" and "how come's". And those teeny weirdo thoughts are the ones that hold me back...because they take up time and energy, where I could be actually getting something done or enjoying what's right in front of me.
Did you know you can CUT THEM OFF?! Before they even start...just say "nah. not relevant to this moment...or maybe ever." and force your brain to knock it off. Not to get all social-worky on you (That's actually the degree I graduated with). But the truth is, most cases of anxiety and stress disorders stem from this exact thing...not knowing how to shut the random thoughts off, and then people spiral out of control and your brain goes into overwhelming panic mode. It's not worth it. It might take some practice, but reminding yourself to shut out the stupid "but what if" thoughts can save you a lot of time, energy, and life in your days. Hang in there folks! We're in this crazy adventure of life together!
